Why This Blog Exist?

I am passionate about marketing, technology and people. Mix them together and we have a myriad of opportunities to improve our daily personal and professional lives.

Increasingly though, I feel a disconnect between business leaders and their understanding of social media or, more precisely, ‘social conversations done online’. I have been asking questions such as why leaders are not harnessing the power of social to improve the corporate brand and, most importantly, how social can be used to improve the way we communicate with each other in a professional environment.

The richness of social media in providing knowledge, real-time information, news and soul-learning has been sadly overlooked. I am learning to understand and work around the complexities of why business leaders want to engage in social media with customers, but totally ignore the social needs of employees by firewalling and limiting access to the social internet. Productivity is gained when information is easier to be found and utilised. Isn’t the duty of business leaders is to make employees smarter? And we know ‘smart’ only comes with knowledge and constant learning.

On the Personal Front

I admit I adore the unknown, love challenges and am very competitive (much to my wife’s dismay as I never go easy at badminton or Scrabble). Life-long learning is a passion and next on my list is to land a good MBA (wish me luck on this one!)

What I Do

Currently the Marketing Communications Strategist at Hogg Robinson Group (HRG Singapore), I am responsible for online and offline marketing communications initiatives for HRG Singapore (external and internal) and HRG Hong Kong (external). I was with Oracle Corporation as a Business Analyst in Oracle’s APAC Alliances & Channels organisation from October 2007 till February 2010. What a smashing ‘growing up’ time.

I also used to run and manage Fruit Records with my dearest Wife. We still have nice music on our Myspace, so check it out. Fruit Records thought me many things about business and why customers (and employees) are the most important element in your business. Value them.

I made many real friends at Esplanade, Theatres on the Bay for 5+ years of my life.

What Have I Achieved…So Far

Academically, I achieved a Bachelor of Arts (Hons, First Class) in Marketing Management (Northumbria University) and was also a Gold Award winner for top academic performance in my Diploma in Sales & Marketing studies (Marketing Institute of Singapore).
